Sniffy Dog Game - how many sniffs can you catch? *crunch, crunch*

This dog is ready to sniff! 🐕
This dog is ready to sniff! 🐕

I made my first video game as part of the 2019 Pixelles Game Incubator VII Follow Along program.

The game is programmed in Stencyl and the dog and trees were created in Pixilart. The sniffs were created with the spray paint function in Gimp. The snorts and crunches were of a random dog on the internet on freesound.org.

The music is “Happy Sandbox” by Motivve (now known as “Unlistenable.”)

Sniffy Dog is currently a web based game.

How did the Pixelles Game Incubator Work? #

The Pixelles Game Incubator was an in-person Montreal based program where folks were supported in creating their first video game. The program also had a follow along program, for non Montreal based participants. There was a Slack channel that one could join for a sense of community and to ask any questions throughout the program. Each week had a different theme.

Week 1 #

Brainstorm your game idea and come up with 1 or 2 mechanics of how it could work.

Week 2 #

Work out your core mechanics of how people might play your game, what the aesthetic is, and create a paper model of how it will work.

Week 3 #

List all the dream features of your game, the minimum features it will have, and explain it to others to ensure it makes sense.

Week 4 #

Add in artistic touches and at least one sound effect or background song to your game.

Week 5 #

Ready your game to be tested. Come up with testing questions for your test audience. Come up with a title, instructions, and a function that restarts your game.

Week 6 #

Get your game online and into the online showcase.

The in-person showcase for this incubator was on March 13, 2019.
